Keeping the Story Alive
A community’s story does not end with the past.

It continues through the people who live there today and the young people who will shape tomorrow.

Animating Albina: “The Soul of Portland” is about keeping the history and stories of Albina and North/Northeast Portland alive. Funding for the project began in 2025. KemetLightMedia is producing the project, with animation by Terrance L. Xavier Burton.

Through animation and storytelling, we are creating a way to share important memories with a new generation. We want people to learn about the history of Albina while also thinking about what the future can look like.

The project brings together art, history, storytelling, and community.
It reminds us that our neighborhoods are shaped by people. They are shaped by the choices people make, the businesses they build, the art they create, and the ways they help one another. When we preserve these stories, we give future generations a chance to learn from them.

In Our Darkest Hour
Xavier Burton

In our darkest hour, life can feel heavy, uncertain, and overwhelming. There are moments when fear is loud, hope feels distant, and the weight of pain seems too much to carry. We walk through seasons where tears fall in silence and answers feel out of reach, wondering if the night will ever end. Yet even in those moments, there is a quiet strength that holds us together—a reminder that darkness never has the final word.

The storms we face may shake us, but they do not define us. Every struggle carries the possibility of growth, and every broken place can become where healing begins. What feels like an ending can become the ground where something new is formed within us—strength we didn’t know we had, courage we didn’t think we could find, and faith that refuses to give up.

Dawn always follows the night. And in time, we begin to see that even the hardest seasons were not wasted. They shaped us, refined us, and carried us toward something greater than the pain we endured.
