When you book your event at The Laurelhurst Club, you’re investing in more than a venue, you’re becoming part of over a century of Portland history.
Nestled directly across from Laurelhurst Park, the Club sits in the heart of one of Portland’s most iconic historic neighborhoods. Laurelhurst was developed in the early 1900s as one of Portland’s first streetcar suburbs, known for its winding, tree-lined streets, beautiful early-20th-century homes, and distinctive neighborhood design. Today, the Laurelhurst Historic District is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The Laurelhurst Club itself was established in 1912. Neighbors originally gathered in one another’s homes before 32 local residents each contributed $100 toward the construction of a permanent clubhouse. The building was completed in 1914 and quickly became a gathering place for dances, galas, weddings, community meetings, and celebrations. It even had tennis courts and its own 30-member symphonic orchestra. During World War I, local women gathered inside the Club to prepare bandages for soldiers overseas.
And just across the street is Laurelhurst Park—designed by Emanuel Mische, Portland’s first Superintendent of Parks and a former horticulturist with the Olmsted Brothers firm. In 1919, the park was named the most beautiful park on the West Coast by the Pacific Coast Parks Association. (The Laurelhurst Club)
