The Department of Theatre & Digital Filmmaking is thrilled to announce that Dr. Eric Derr will be joining us this fall under a new faculty line as Instructor of Audio Technology. A percussionist and audio engineer, Dr. Derr holds degrees from DePaul University, McGill University, and UC San Diego. He and his family are relocating to Portales from San Diego, where he has been supporting Music Technology instruction at MiraCosta College, managing two professional recording studios, and overseeing AV operations for campus performance venues. As a performer, Eric has appeared with the San Diego Symphony, Ensemble Dal Niente, and the International Contemporary Ensemble at venues including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Walt Disney Concert Hall, and the Library of Congress. He also produces, records, and performs electroacoustic music under the name bad checks. At ENMU, Dr. Derr will teach our film sound courses, mentor students on sound production, and oversee our new film sound lab and AV systems in the UTC and Buchanan Hall. While his appointment is in Theatre & Digital Filmmaking, he will also collaborate with the Department of Music to teach Sound & Music Technology courses and offer individual lessons for minors in the program.
