Second Chance: The Chance Gainer Story
Chance Gainer was a star athlete at Port St. Joe High School located in the panhandle of Florida. Known for his smile, positive attitude, and hardworking mentality, Chance excelled in football and in his academics with aspirations of attending Vanderbilt to pursue his collegiate football career. Chance passed away on September 6, 2024 due to sudden cardiac arrest, leaving a legacy that will forever outlast the halls of Port St. Joe High School.
The purpose of this documentary is to tell Chance’s story through those who knew him best. Following Chance’s death, his family helped pass Florida’s Second Chance Act (SB 1070) which mandates that all high school student-athletes in grades 9-12 undergo an electrocardiogram (ECG/EKG) screening, starting July 1, 2026, for the 2026-27 school year.
