Got to take a needed breath The Fainted Goat Flower Farm this morning. Using these glorious dahlia’s today for upcoming weddings. Perfection! And…they have goats. None fainted during my visit.

The brief was to make a bouquet of wildflowers for the dynamic bride. I get this request a lot. I think it’s easy to mislabel locally grown flowers as wildflowers. Most flowers grown locally are cultivated flowers grown from seeds, tubers, rhizomes, etc. They are grown with care and love and thoughtfully processed by farmers and florists to create lasting stems for a given moment during the season when they bloom.

While some flowers that grow in the wild are native, some are not, and are,in fact, invasive. Most flowers growing in the wild do not last when plucked from the ground.

So, when given this brief, I call on the Impressionists to inspire me with colors, shapes, and textures that give the allusion of wild. Success? Maybe. But let’s give credit to the farmers who create these blooms that can be both sophisticated and wild depending upon how they’re used.

I struggle with bud vases as centerpieces. Can they make a dynamic enough impact? For today’s event we decided to put them in groupings in metallic chargers and design them as one piece rather than 5 little pieces. I think it really works. PS, if you look at the second photo you can see a cupcake trying to upstage the flowers.
