This is a true blessing from my uncle, Father Roland Julien. Back in 1983 he individually, interviewed my grandmother, Germaine Roy, and my grandfather, Clarence Julien, about their lives, their childhoods, and how they eventually came to Daytona Beach, Florida.
After my uncle's passing in December 2024, the cassette tapes ended up with my Aunt Claire in California. Recently, she asked if I would like to have them. My answer? Of course! I immediately ordered a cassette converter, digitized the recordings, and created slideshow videos using family photographs to accompany the interviews.
Hearing the voices of my grandfather, grandmother, and uncle again brought me to tears, but they were happy tears. As I listened, I couldn't help but think about the foresight my uncle had in undertaking a project like this back in 1983. What an incredible gift he left for future generations. It is just one more example of what an amazing man he was.
I am also fortunate to have inherited many rolls of handwritten family tree charts that he created with the help of his cousin, Louise Julien-Decosmo. I am proud to inherit not only his Julien-Roy genes, but also his passion for genealogy and family history, allowing me to continue preserving and sharing our family's story.
