The Canteen, one of our most cherished buildings on the property, still holds the same storied charm as it did in the 1930’s. During the Camp Minisink days, it served as a summer sanctuary for inner-city youth from Harlem. Fast forward to 1986 when our parents bought the property, it was the only heated building, so that’s where they curled up during the long, quiet winters. It then became the hub of camp life as our kitchen and dining hall for Team USA Sports Camp, where we first honed our hospitality skills (and maybe also caught the eye of some soccer boys…) Now, our Canteen is the first space you enter when you arrive at Cedar Lakes, and it really is just so, so special. Warmed by a crackling fire and a gentle smile, you can almost hear the laughter and feel the memories from the past 100 magical years.
