Different experiences. Different approaches. Different reasons for stepping into the arena.

But every answer offers a glimpse into the mindset of someone willing to compete at a championship level.

Championship experience cannot be taught.

The seasoned veterans of the Texas Food Championship have spent years refining their craft, earning respect, and competing at the highest levels of food competition.

Nancy Manlove. Lori McLain. Tina Crutchfield. Roger Donohoe. John Guzman.

These competitors understand what it takes to perform under pressure, execute at a championship level, and deliver when every detail matters.

Because at this level, experience matters.

This isn't a random location. It's part of the experience.

Set along the Corpus Christi waterfront at Waters Edge Park, the Texas Food Championship brings together world-class competition and a uniquely Texas coastal atmosphere.

Open space. Coastal air. Championship energy.

You're not walking into a parking lot festival. You're stepping into an event designed to showcase the very best of Texas food, culture, and community.

This is what a championship weekend should feel like.

How did you get into cooking?
"I started cooking for friends and comrades when I was in the Army. I got motivated; I started my restaurant & catering company, and started competing shortly after. Been at it ever since!"

What made you start competing?
"Watching BBQ Pitmasters back when it started airing, and knowing, I could probably beat the people on the show; might as well see if I can do any good on the competition trail!"

What's one thing you do better than most competitors?
"I feel like the one thing that sets me apart from other competitors is my ability to perform under pressure, and be consistent doing so, in a time restricted atmosphere. Also, my talent to cook, fix errors, and make alterations on the fly helps!"

Why should people root for you?
"I'm a husband, father, friend, veteran, and I'm worth rooting for."

What would you tell someone thinking about attending the festival?
"Come enjoy the competition and the atmosphere it provides! This festival is going to be memorable, and fun!

This Is Where Texas Crowns Its Culinary Champions.

šŸ™ A huge thank you to 83 Press and Hoffman Media for the incredible collection of cookbooks recently sent our way for review. Also a major thank you to Donna Anderson Yamini with The Jelly Queens for the introduction!

As we spend time diving into these books and learning from some of the best in culinary publishing, it’s impossible not to appreciate the power of preserving recipes, stories, and the people behind them.

It also gets you thinking…

What would it look like to capture a year of Texas Food Champions, their recipes, their stories, and the brands helping elevate Texas food and beverage along the way?

Just a thought. šŸ˜‰

For now, we’re grateful for the inspiration and excited to see where the next chapter leads.
