In Loving Memory of Dolly Parton
January 19, 1946 – August 25, 2026
Today, we join millions around the world in mourning the passing of the incomparable Dolly Parton—an American treasure whose extraordinary life was defined not simply by talent, but by grace, generosity, faith, humor, and an unwavering belief in the goodness of people.
Dolly had that rare ability to make the whole world feel as though it knew her. Behind the rhinestones was a remarkable songwriter, actress, businesswoman, philanthropist, and champion for children and literacy. Her light reached far beyond the stage, and generations are better because she chose to share it. Her passing at age 80 was announced today, August 25, 2026. (Reuters)
For those of us who hold the legacy of Designing Women especially close, we fondly remember Dolly’s unforgettable guest appearance in the special one-hour episode, “The First Day of the Last Decade of the Entire Twentieth Century.” There was something wonderfully fitting about Dolly entering the world of Designing Women—two Southern institutions meeting with all the wit, warmth, strength, glamour, and heart one could possibly fit onto a television screen.
Today, we remember that moment with a smile, while remembering the woman behind it with profound gratitude.
Thank you, Dolly!
