One of my favorite parts of Clark Fork Market season isn't just the customers or the food, it's the friendships that get built along the way.
For the past three years, I've enjoyed visiting with our friend from Yemen at the market. She's an incredible baker, a genuinely kind person, and someone I've come to greatly respect. One thing I always look forward to is the traditional treats she shares with us. This week she brought what I believe are date-filled cookies similar to ma'amoul and a peanut cookie made with crushed peanuts throughout.
What makes them even more special is knowing these recipes have been passed down through her family. Every bite tells a story of culture, heritage, and tradition that has been preserved for generations. I truly appreciate the opportunity to experience flavors and recipes from a part of the world very different from my own.
The market is about so much more than buying and selling. It's about community, learning from one another, and building friendships that cross cultures and backgrounds. I'm grateful for the conversations, the kindness, and the chance to taste a little piece of Yemen right here in Montana.
