Briggs Taxi

When the local trolley line ended service after the 1919 summer season, Herb Briggs stepped in and in 1920 started his Grey Line bus service which loosely replicated the defunct trolley route. His Grey Line eventually expanded beyond Point Pleasant over the next 30 years. In the early 1950s, Briggs bought out Chet's Taxi which was based at the train station and opened his own modest office at Arnold and Cincinatti Aves (color photo), where Duffy's Deli was built by the mid 50s. He then moved into the familiar long, narrow building on Railroad Square and built an empire which still goes strong on Richmond Avenue.loosly replicated the defunct trolley route.
