Last week, we unexpectedly lost someone very special to our shop family, Brenda.
For many years, she was “the Saturday girl.” It used to be just Brenda and LD on Saturdays, or as they liked to call them, “therapy days.” Those quiet (and sometimes not-so-quiet) Saturdays were filled with flowers, laughter, and conversation.
After she retired, she became so much more than the Saturday girl. She loved being at the shop. What started as Saturdays grew into three or four days a week, and anytime we needed an extra hand, she was there, always willing to help.
Brenda was an incredibly talented artist. She had a natural eye for color combinations and style, whether she was designing floral arrangements or creating her beautiful glass work. No matter how busy we were with orders piling up and the phone ringing, she would find a moment to share her newest glass piece with us. She should have been proud; her work in both flowers and glass was something special. It was always a joy to see her excitement and the sparkle in her eyes when she talked about what she was creating.
Her sudden passing has left an emptiness here that we feel deeply. We’ve said goodbye to employees before, but never like this. Not so suddenly.
We will miss her greatly, her talent, her pride in her craft, her willingness to jump in wherever she was needed, and simply her presence.
Down here at the shop, it won’t quite be the same.
Our hearts go out to Lindsey, Katie, Dave and all of Brenda’s family and friends during this difficult time.
A memorial will be held on Monday, March 2, from 6-8 at Wilks Funeral Home in Chubbuck.
In her honor, we’re reminded to slow down and enjoy the flowers while we can.
