Blueberries & Huckleberries at Camp. So many species - here are four of them. Do you notice the differences?
1. Northern highbush blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum)
2. Black highbush blueberry
(Vaccinium fuscatum)
3. Dangleberry - AKA blue huckleberry (Gaylussacia frondosa)
4. Early lowbush bluberry (Vaccinium pallidum)

Not pictured and to confuse us even more:
Lowbush blueberry (Vaccinium angustifolium)
Black huckleberry (Gaylussacia baccata)
He-huckleberry (Lyonia ligustrina) - not a huckleberry!

The Magic of Pinewoods

A fun experience walking to Hands Across during Scottish Sessions.
I felt something fly by me and I stopped to listen. I heard an Eastern screech owlet making its raspy, screechy, begging call. I saw the adult drop down, pick up something from the forest floor (most likely an insect), and then fly over and feed it to the owlet! All while the music drifted up from Hands Across.

Listen closely for the calls of the owlet.

What a wonderful way to spend a Friday evening! 💃🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

I had the opportunity to visit Pinewoods Camp, Inc. for the very first time, and I am so glad I did! Like many people, I have driven and run past the road leading to the camp countless times over the years, but I had never ventured down the road to see what was there.

Many of us know the property as the former Girl Scout camp from nearly 100 years ago, but today it is an incredible hidden gem right here in Plymouth. Pinewoods Camp welcomes people of all ages from around the world to enjoy traditional music and dance in a beautiful natural setting.

I was honored to be invited to the Scottish Grand Ball. It was such a fun experience to watch the dancing, learn more about the camp's rich traditions, learn about the dance, and even take part in the Grand Procession to the pavilion (not the dancing..I would need years of lessons for any of that for any one who knows me).

What struck me most was hearing how many people have been coming to Pinewoods for decades. Families return year after year, lifelong friendships are formed, and people travel from across the globe—and from right here in Massachusetts—to be part of this special community.

Thank you to everyone for the warm welcome! It was a memorable evening, and I am grateful for the opportunity to experience one of Plymouth's truly unique treasures. Make sure to check them out they have so many different types of dance. We are so lucky to live where we live! 💙
