Okay, you guys KILLED it with the guesses last night! 🙌 My favorite plant is… Mican philodendron.💚 That velvety shimmer gets me every single time. She just shows off in all the right ways and isn't a hard plant to care for. I've got 2 of them in the shop right now if you've never seen one, come check them out!
And a few of you asked about Bethany, so I had to share! 📸 Meet Bethany, my pink banana plant (Musa velutina) 🍌💗 She's putting on a brand new leaf, and I've been so excited about it! She's rhizomatous and is also a mother to 6 little pink banana tree babies. The pinkish/purple on the undersides of those beautiful variegated leaves is just STUNNING! Next spring, we will talk about repotting and by then, her babies will be ready to be in pots of their very own and will be on the lookout for their new homes.
Since we're talking plants, let's talk about what's coming. The days are getting shorter, and your houseplants are noticing too 🌙 Here's how to help them through it:
☀️ Move them closer to your brightest windows. South and west windows are gold this time of year.
🧽 Dust off those leaves so they can soak up every bit of light.
💧 Water less. Slower growth means they're drinking less, so let the soil dry out a little more between drinks.
🌱 Hold off on fertilizer until spring. They're resting, not struggling.
❄️ Keep them away from cold drafts and heat vents.
If your plants slow down this winter, that's totally normal. They're just taking a cozy little nap and will be back to showing off in the spring. And honestly, that's relatable!
Now I want to hear from YOU! What's your favorite grow light to get through the Nebraska winter? Drop it in the comments 👇 I'm always looking for new ones to try!
