Community Kitchen Pittsburgh uses food as the foundation to change lives and strengthen communities by providing culinary training and opening career pathways to individuals who experience barriers to employment. CKP operates out of the idea that every person who comes through our doors is inherently worthy and has the potential to reach and exceed their goals, regardless of their past. We offer training programs, transitional employment opportunities, apprenticeships, and job placement services that are designed to meet participants where they are and connect them with stable, higher-than-entry-level positions in culinary or adjacent industries that lead to wage progression and professional advancement. Since 2014, over 500 students have graduated from CKP, 95% of whom are employed within 30 days. Our graduates are now powering the back of the house in restaurants and professional kitchens throughout Pittsburgh and beyond. We're also a proud member of the Catalyst Kitchens Network.

Tuesday was Rivers Casino Day of Service, and we were incredibly fortunate to partner with Rivers Casino Pittsburgh for this special day of giving back.

The day began with some of the wonderful staff from Rivers Casino Pittsburgh joining us at our facility to volunteer their time and help prepare food for our contract meals. Their hard work and enthusiasm made a meaningful difference to our team and the people we serve.

Later that day, three of our chefs headed to the casino, where they shared samples inspired by the casino’s very own cookbook. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with the Rivers Casino team and showcase some of the work we do.

We wrapped up the day by accepting a very generous donation from Rivers Casino, which will help support our ongoing efforts and the individuals and families we serve.

A heartfelt thank-you to the entire Rivers Casino Pittsburgh team for volunteering your time, sharing your talents, and making such a generous donation. We are truly grateful for your partnership and support!

Continuing our weekly celebration of Workforce Development Month, we’re highlighting our program and the progress our students make along the way!

Students begin in the classroom, learning kitchen math, food safety, and other essential fundamentals before heading downstairs to put those skills into practice.

Over 8–12 weeks, students train in our commercial kitchen, gaining hands-on experience, building confidence, and developing the skills they need to take their next steps toward employment.

We’re proud to support our students as they learn, grow, and prepare for success in the workforce!
