I apologize to everyone for not making it to the farmers market at 8 this morning. I ended up arriving around 9 a.m. after receiving a difficult call from back home that my dad is in the ICU.

It has been a very difficult year for my family. My dad is diabetic and developed a gangrene infection in his foot, which led to an amputation. Since then, his health has continued to decline, especially mentally and emotionally as he struggles with depression.

The news from back home slowed me down this morning. I had to take a minute to process and digest everything, then pull myself together for today’s market.

Despite everything, I still wanted to show up and continue doing what I love. We are officially SOLD OUT today, and I truly cannot thank everyone enough for the support, patience, kindness, and understanding. Your support means more than you know during difficult times like this.

And thank you to the Pittsburg Farmers Market for giving small businesses like mine this opportunity.

Sayadiyah — a beloved Middle Eastern coastal fish and rice dish full of deep flavor, warm spices, and tradition 🐟✨

This dish is made with whole fish seasoned with spices and fried until golden and crispy, then served over fragrant rice cooked with caramelized onions, garlic, and spices that give the rice its rich brown color and signature flavor. Fresh lime and herbs are added on top to balance the richness with brightness and freshness.

In many Middle Eastern cultures, eating whole fish is part of the tradition and hospitality. Serving the fish whole keeps the meat tender, juicy, and flavorful while also showing freshness and respect for the ingredient. Many people believe the bones and head add extra flavor during cooking, creating a deeper taste in the rice and broth. Gathering around a tray of whole fish is also a cultural experience sharing food family-style from one large platter symbolizes generosity, togetherness, and blessing.

This dish is often eaten with a tangy tamarind sauce made with chopped green onions, garlic, balsamic vinegar, lemon juice, onions, tomatoes, and parsley. The sauce adds a sweet, sour, garlicky flavor that cuts through the richness of the fried fish and spiced rice, making every bite balanced and full of flavor.

This Sayadiyah tray was requested by the same loyal customer in Joplin who requested the Yemeni Mandi, bringing another traditional dish from the Middle East to the table with authentic flavor and love 🌊🍋
