๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿฉต HELP US FILL THE RIBBON WALL ๐Ÿฉต๐Ÿ’œ

Every year, our community comes together to prove that no one fights alone.

Today, weโ€™re launching our Fill the Ribbon Wall Campaign to support the 6th Annual Lifting the Stigma Powerlifting Meet and our mission of su***de prevention awareness and education.

Each ribbon represents a person, family, business, or organization standing with us in the fight to save lives and break the stigma surrounding mental health.

๐Ÿ’œ Ribbons start at just $5
๐Ÿฉต Businesses and individuals can sponsor larger ribbons up to $500
๐Ÿ’œ Every donation helps support our efforts and benefits the American Foundation for Su***de Prevention.

In honor and memory of:
Nycole Jere Thornton
1994โ€“2013

Will you help us fill the wall?

These trainings are open to the public and completely free to attend, but registration is required.
Whether you are a veteran, family member, educator, coach, pastor, first responder, healthcare worker, or simply someone who wants to help make a difference, we encourage you to attend.

Awards are always a thing at any powerlifting meet, and is no different in that we will be announcing our overall lifter awards soon, both tested and non tested male and female. What is different is that Lifting the Stigma always has been and always will be primarily remembering the lives of those we love.
In my opinion the most meaningful awards that will be earned at the meet are the 4 you are looking at now. Named after Nycole Jereโ€™ and Trevor Broach, the teen lifter awards will be chosen by our judges, spotters/loaders and expeditors awarded to the male and female teen lifter that best represent the way Nycole and Trevor lived their lives.
The awards for officer Cano and Bailey will be awarded to the male and female first responder with the highest DOTS.
If you or someone you know is in crisis, please call or text #988

Our next confirmed lifter is 1 I go way back with - I have known this man since before most of our lifters were born and watched him grow into a man of character, faith, and strength.
Coach Don (Donald) Woods is our next confirmed lifter. Don has been the girls powerlifting coach for years in Mt Pleasant and has turned out some phenomenal lifters as their coach, but never competed himself until last year. Don stepped on the platform for the first time at last yearโ€™s for his first ever push/pull. Since then he lost over 40 lbs body weight and competed in his first full meet.
What many donโ€™t see is the fact that Don was instrumental in helping us not only secure the Andy Williams gymnasium for our meet, but when I walked in last year for setup on Friday I really did not have to do much - Don had worked with the school to make sure it was already done.
I have seen a fraction of the hours he pours into โ€œhis kids.โ€ The tears he cried with and for them, the prayers shared with them and for them, and his passion for making sure they all feel seen, heard, and valued. Don lives daily a life of lifting the stigma - he not only talks about mental health, he listens, and he strives daily to give โ€œhis kidsโ€ a place of safety and healing.
Donโ€™s physical strength will be evident on the platform this year, but his real strength is the way he treats people daily.
Letโ€™s welcome Don back to the platform and thank him for helping us on su***de and mental health issues.

Fresh off a win at the Powerlifting United National Championships, Braden Fears is our next confirmed lifter.
Braden competed with us last year at the 5th Annual Lifting the Stigma and took home the overall lifter award there, and is coming back to defend his title.
Braden is a humble as they come, a quite nerd at heart (the nerd description are his words, not mine), but behind that quite exterior is a scrappy lifter with absolutely no quit - he will fight for every kilo on the platform.
He has also proven that he will fight for every life, and fight to change the stigma around su***de and mental health issues. As a 132lb Braden may not be our biggest lifter, but you can best believe he has a heart as big as any, and he is already silently working behind the scenes on ways to help us crush our donation goal, while crushing some platform PRs.
Together we can on su***de and mental health issues.
