It was a tough time for both customers and merchants when Blacklion, a home decor marketplace in South Charlotte, closed its doors last year after 27 years. Newer Charlotte resident, Sonja Nichols, saw a need and an opportunity to find a new home for these merchants, with an aim to grow and include even more retailers. After a few struggles to find the right space, Sonja purchased the Sears building at Carolina Place Mall, and Southern Lion Charlotte was born.

Southern Lion boasts 300 merchant spaces downstairs and 123 spaces upstairs, with over 10 booth options ranging in size. Entrepreneurs, artists, designers, and small business owners will be able to create, grow, and sell their products to customers that have an eye for one-of-a-kind home furnishings and decor. More than 85% of the current businesses within Southern Lion are women-owned.
