We’re monstrous-ly proud of this event. A world premiere of an exciting new chamber ensemble piece. A classic horror film. The daughter of a Hollywood Legend. Watch the trailer, above!

See the 1931 classic Frankenstein — starring the legendary Boris Karloff — accompanied by the world premiere of a new chamber ensemble score composed by Michael Shapiro, performed live by the Argus String Quartet with pianist Steven Beck.

But the film and live score are only part of the night. We'll open the program with a Q&A with Sara Karloff, Boris Karloff's daughter — a rare and intimate glimpse into the life and legacy of one of cinema's most iconic figures. And our own Executive Director, Patrick Trettenero, will share a special exhibition of Frankenstein-inspired fan art from his personal collection.

Shapiro's score, which The New Yorker has praised as "vivacious," flows alongside the film like a second heartbeat — dark and driving when Henry Frankenstein's ambition takes hold, and at times startlingly tender and haunting as it gives voice to the monster's inner life. His full orchestral version has been performed by more than 80 orchestras worldwide, and this chamber adaptation makes its world premiere right here in Pine Plains.
