The Smoke on the Water family will forever have a hole in our hearts where Ronnie used to be. Tonight we were thankful to be surrounded by those that knew Ronnie best and loved him as much as we did. We told great stories (and some questionable ones) we laughed and we cried together and we raised a shot glass that had never felt so heavy in memory of him. We love you Ronnie and we miss you all the time.

We want to extend a big thank you to Hestand Stadium for letting us hold a memorial event today. We sure miss our Ronnie and we will toast him and his legacy tonight. If you’re in the area please come by and share stories or just drink a beer and eat some BBQ in his memory.

To know Ronnie was to know he was a fan of his bourbon and Makers Mark 46 was always his go to choice. This bottle was graciously provided by the incredible team at Southeast Engravers, Inc. for us to share in one final toast to our dear friend. If you don’t recognize the name I can promise you recognize the work behind it. Southeast Engravers has provided the trophies we have always used for Smoke on the Water, from right here in Pine Bluff, all the way west to shimmering Las Vegas, and back north to the legendary Atlantic City. Ronnie used Southeast Engravers because of the quality and creativity from them. So friends one and all, raise a glass with us in appreciation for a support system like we have and in memory of Ronnie. Cheers all.

As many of you know this past weekend we lost our fearless leader and dear friend Ronnie Cates. What you may not know is that Ronnie fought tooth and nail and expended every dollar he had to keep this event alive for as long as he did. Now with his passing his daughter you all know, Kirby, has been left to sort out his financials and settle his accounts. If any of you feel so compelled in your heart of hearts we would be so beyond appreciative of any help. It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of the passing of my beloved father, Ronnie Cates, with his Smoke on the Water family.

As a daughter, you idolize your father, and my daddy was one of the best! It was my great honor to share him with our BBQ family for all these years. I want you all to know that you brought as much joy to him, as he did to you. He lived for the celebrations, the camaraderie, the great BBQ, and most importantly, the life long friendships that were developed over the past 24ish years.

I ask that you hold myself, my family, our Smoke on the Water team , and our BBQ family in your prayers through the upcoming days and months ahead as we learn to navigate this world without the greatest of all time, my daddy.

Our team will do one last event , and will let yall know details on that when we figure it out. 💖
