I received this wonderful review from the father of a groom yesterday. This is why I am passionate about wedding production:

To whom it may concern,
On September 12, 2025, I reached out to Greg McLeese, a DJ that had been
on the referred vendors list at the venue my son was going to use for his
wedding. I am a DJ from the Boston area and wanted to give my guidance
in finding the right (best possible) person for this special day.
Greg got back to me in a timely manner, and we had a very long
conversation about styles of DJing events, especially one as important as
a wedding. We found we had a lot in common, in terms of ideas and styles
of how to deal with clients. We had other things we connected very well
on also, and so I got a great feeling. I investigated two others who were
on the same Vendor’s list, and their websites were nice, but something
just did not connect for me. So, I let my son Christopher and his fiancé
Madison know about my discussion with Greg and my strong feelings
about meeting with him. Also, that Greg is a Man of Faith which was a very
much appreciated factor.
Although it took the young ones some time to get ahold of and set a
meeting time, eventually they met with DJ Greg in December. Calling me
afterwards with the same positive feelings towards him as well, and with
that they signed a contract.
The wedding was on Friday April 10, 2026 – perfect weather, great venue,
and music entertainment and an MC who did not disappoint. Greg was
well received by both families as well as the guests and fulfilled the role
above expectations. My son and new daughter-in-law were very pleased
with his professionalism and his kindness throughout the day.
As a DJ who gets to sometimes work with, and witness others at their
craft, I am usually shy about critiquing fellow DJs. In this circumstance I
am pleased to give a very positive review and credit to DJ Greg. It was an
honor to have him for our eldest son’s wedding just outside Raleigh North
Carolina. On behalf of my wife and I, as well as her family, we thank Greg
with our hearts and will always remember him.

Many times, I wind up counseling couples that contact me, to chat about things that have absolutely NOTHING to do with DJ services.
Case in point, this is a recent conversation that I had with a bride to be, that was at that point in her planning, that was searching for a venue that would fit what she and her fiance' were looking for, in the Elkin/Mount Airy area of NC:

I absolutely service the Mt.Airy and Elkin area. I can give you some great information about good/better/best venues to visit if you’d like. The ones that I like/love and ones that I don’t.

It’s super important that you guys go with your gut feelings after visiting different venues and what you liked or disliked about them.
Some things to think about when designing your budget regarding venues:

Do they offer built in catering?

Do they have a catering/banquet staff?

If so, those are the venues that are going to offer a better deal when it comes to food, amenities and facilities.

Do they offer built in bridal suites for the girls to get ready in? Do they offer grooms suites for the guys?

Do they offer a great rate to reserve the entire venue for the weekend for decorating, setup/prep, day of show and ample time for cleanup?

Do they offer in house bartenders or do you have to supply your own?

All things to consider when searching for your favorite venue.

Allow me to share a tidbit of information regarding venues in the state of NC -

As of January 1, 2026, there were 436 “rustic barn” type venues within the greater Piedmont area including Mt. Airy and Elkin. Usually, those venues are nothing more than a big concrete slab with a pole barn put on top.

Many of those venues were actual working horse /stable barns that were converted to event spaces.

Of those venues, they weren’t designed with the bride or comfort in mind.

Also, in my experience, I’ve seen couples spend WAY MORE money on bringing in outside vendors to those venues than they would have spent on actual venues that were designed and built as “event venues” from the ground up.

Again, all things to think about when you jump into planning with both feet.
