Looking to get away? Check out Humboldt Mountain in Tonto National Forrest.
This hidden gem is just over an hour from Phoenix. You’ll find the temperature 10-15 degrees cooler than the valley.
During the day, you get sweeping views of Horseshoe Lake and the Tonto Mountains. At night, you get an unrivaled view of the stars above.
You don’t need a 4x4 to get there, but there is about 7 miles of dirt road that sedans should exercise caution and drive at a reduced speed.
Directions from 101 North:
-Exit Pima/Princess and Turn Right onto Princess.
-Follow Pima all the way until you hit a stop sign at Cave Creek Road and turn right.
-Follow Cave Creek Road into Tonto National Forest (Cave Creek Road turns into Seven Springs Road)
-After about 7 miles of being on the dirt road, you will see an opportunity to turn right onto a one-lane paved road. This leads you to the top of Humboldt.
Or, of course, you could type in Humboldt Mountain Lookout into your GPS. But be sure to do so before you enter Tonto. Cell service is scarce!
And if you’d rather relax and enjoy the views on the drive up, give us a call and we will gladly be at your service.
