Phew. Preparing for the YèShì Chinatown Night Market was a tough one. To be quite honest, I almost quit at the end. I had been working for a few days straight -- making different cookie doughs, cinnamon roll dough, baking mini loaf cakes, making frostings, toppings, etc. When the time came, my label printer wouldn't connect so I didn't get to print all the labels I needed, and I was late to the market... AGAIN. But that's because it's so difficult when making a large quantity of items, as just one person with one oven. I want everything to be as fresh as possible, so I only do the finishing touches hours before the sun rises, and bake cookies as close to market time as possible. Then there's the decorating, packaging, and labeling. I get really anxious towards the end. The tremendous amount of work put into it, and then we have to go to the market and run the tent for a couple of hours, not knowing if someone in charge will deny my late entry. Not knowing what the turnout will be like, or how slow or busy it'll be at my booth. I made a few batches of Milk Bread Cinnamon Rolls and Matcha Milk Bread Cinnamon Rolls that I never got to take to the market yesterday, because I ran out of time to make the frosting and package them. Almost everything that could have went wrong, went wrong, and I almost considered not going, even if that meant everything I made would go to waste. If you've ever made a purchase at one of my markets, I want you to know how meaningful it is. It means you chose to support a small (micro) business. It means someone gets to enjoy the fruits of my labor, and hopefully have a better day! It means I get to save up towards an actual location (and vendor fees more ingredients, equipment, and supplies 🙃). Thank you, from the bottom of my heart ❤️
If you bought cookies from me at the Chinatown Night Market yesterday, or in general, which one is your favorite flavor?
