Open to the public. One of the oldest and largest of the German-American clubs in Philadelphia, the Cannstatter Volksfest-Verein was founded in 1873 for the purpose of celebrating the customs and traditions of their homeland, especially the annual harvest festival held in the town of Bad Cannstatt. The annual Fest held on Labor Day weekend draws thousands of people, both German-Americans and others, to observe and participate in this colorful, ethnic event.

Fruit column assembly starts tomorrow and takes all week.

We are still looking for volunteers to come and lend a hand and be part of the construction of this years Fruchtsäule.

We start tomorrow at 9 AM and please bring a hammer if you have one. There are several tons of apples, corn, and potatoes, that need to have nails put in them.

What is a Fest without great music?! 🎶🍻

We’re incredibly lucky to have two of the premier German-American bands, The Adlers Band and Die Heimatklänge - HK, performing throughout the weekend!🇩🇪🇺🇸

And, of course, the hardest-working accordion player in the world, Don Bitterlich, will be bringing the party!

Together, they’ll keep the dance floor packed with a mix of traditional German favorites, polkas, and modern party music all weekend long.

So come to the 154th Annual Volksfest ready for great food, cold beer, great music, and plenty of Gemütlichkeit!

Next Monday, the work starts on the assembly of the Fruit Column in preparations for our 154th Annual Volksfest

Over the past few months, we’ve taken on the challenge of completely rebuilding the Fruit Column—from the studs up (and, as it turned out, even some of the studs needed to be replaced!). This work was made possible by the generous support by those who contributed to our Fruit Column Restoration campaign.

Our goal was twofold: to restore this beloved Volksfest tradition in time for a special display celebrating the 250th Anniversary of the United States, while also ensuring the Fruit Column remains a part of Cannstatter Volksfest for decades to come.

Since our very first Volksfest in 1873, the Fruit Column has stood as the centerpiece of the celebration. For more than 150 years, generations of families have gathered around it, celebrated together, and captured memories in front of it year after year.

Now, it’s ready to continue that tradition.

We want to see your favorite Fruit Column memories! Share your favorite photos in the comments—whether they’re from this year, last year, or generations ago. Let’s see just how many families and memories this iconic piece of Volksfest history has been a part of!

We are saddened to announce the passing of Rudolph “Rudi” Bayer this past weekend at the age of 95.

Rudi was truly a Cannstatter through and through. He became an Active Life Member in 1954 and was elected to the Board of Directors in 1965. He later served as Cannstatter President from 1980 to 1986, but his service to the club extended far beyond those years. In a variety of leadership and volunteer roles, Rudi devoted decades to the Cannstatter until stepping down from the Board in 2020.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his daughter, Kathi, his son, Rudi Jr., and their families. May Rudi rest in peace.
