Techne 2026 Student Spotlight: Leonid Zuy

This is Leonid's first year attending Techne. He will be performing Schubert's "Death in the Maiden" with violinist Ian Carr, violist Anthony Oviedo, and cellist Son Nguyen. Come hear Leonid and all of the faculty and students of the Techne Music Festival this Thursday, June 11 at 7:00 in Peter Hall / Moravian University!

Leonid Zuy is a violinist, composer, and arranger currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Violin Performance at Temple University, where he studies with Eduard Schmieder. A graduate with honors of the Novosibirsk State Conservatory, he has performed with the Novosibirsk Symphony Orchestra and is actively engaged in chamber music, including string quartets, trios, and sonata repertoire. His artistic approach combines structural clarity with a strong physical awareness of sound, informed by his work with the Alexander Technique. Alongside performance, he creates original arrangements and develops interdisciplinary projects exploring new dimensions of ensemble communication.

2026 Techne Music Student Spotlight
Ian Carr, violin

This is Ian's second year attending the Techne Music Festival. He will be performing Schubert's "Death and the Maiden" Quartet with violinist Leonid Zuy, violist Anthony Oviedo, and cellist Son Nguyen. Come hear Ian and all of the 2026 Techne Music students and Faculty on the final concert: Thursday, June 11th at 7:00 in Peter Hall / Moravian University.

Ian Carr is a violinist currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Violin Performance at the University of Delaware. He performs with the University of Delaware Symphony Orchestra and the Newark Symphony Orchestra, and previously spent six years with the Delaware Youth Symphony Orchestra, including two years as concertmaster. In 2024, he was named winner of the DYSO Concerto Competition. Chamber music has been a consistent part of Ian’s musical development, with experience in ensembles of varied instrumentation from middle school through college. In addition to performing, Ian teaches private violin lessons and continues to develop as both a solo and collaborative musician.

2026 Techne Music Student Spotlight!

Techne Music is excited to welcome the talented Varick Trio to the 2026 festival. Don't miss hearing them at the final concert on Thursday, June 11 at 7:00 PM in Peter Hall / Moravian University. Check www.TechneMusic.org for details.

Varick Trio, formed in 2024, is dedicated to exploring the expressive possibilities of a distinctive instrumental combination while sharing chamber music through intimate performances. Based in New York, the ensemble is composed of violinist Da Young (Rachel) Lim from South Korea, clarinetist Guilherme Batalha from Portugal, and pianist Kevin Kyaw from Myanmar. Drawing on their diverse cultural backgrounds, they share a commitment to exploration, collaboration, and meaningful connection through chamber music.Since its formation, Varick Trio has maintained an active performance schedule, presenting numerous concerts for the local community on Long Island and in New York City. In Summer 2026, Varick will be featured as artists in festivals including Techne Music Festival in Pennsylvania and Decoda Chamber Music Festival in North Carolina. Alongside core repertoire for violin, clarinet, and piano, Varick is deeply committed to discovering and performing rare and underrepresented works, as well as collaborating with contemporary composers to expand their repertoire. In the Spring 2026 concert season at Stony Brook University, Varick premiered a new work by Burmese composer Wai Hin Ko Ko, Where Is the Place of Peace.Currently pursuing Doctor of Musical Arts degrees at Stony Brook University, the trio’s artistic development has been shaped by mentorship from world-renowned musicians including Gilbert Kalish, Christina Dahl, Jennifer Frautschi, Philip Setzer, Matthew Lipman, Alan Kay, and James Austin Smith. Rachel studies with Jennifer Frautschi, and she received her BM and MM degrees from New England Conservatory and Yale University respectively. Guilherme studies with Alan Kay, and he holds his MM degree and Artist Diploma from California State University Fullerton. Kevin studies with Christina Dahl, and he received his BA in Music at Missouri Western State University and his MM degree from the University of Kansas. Outside of music, Varick loves to explore food places and go on a walk to tour new towns together.
