DIY Flowers vs. Hiring event florist?

Thinking about DIYing your wedding flowers?

Here are 3 things to think about first.

DIY flowers can be beautiful, fun, and a great option for some weddings.

But what’s really different when you hire a professional florist?

Number 1: Your time.
With DIY, you’re not just making the arrangements. You have to order the flowers, process every stem, keep everything fresh, make the arrangements, transport them, and set everything up. And all of this happens right before your wedding. When you hire a professional, we take care of those details so you can focus on enjoying your day.

Number 2: Planning and calculations.
How many flowers do you need?
How many stems for each centerpiece?
What size should the arrangements be?
How do you stay within your budget?

Professional floral design isn’t just about choosing pretty flowers. There’s a lot of planning and calculation behind every design.

Number 3: Problem solving.
On an event day, things can change.
Flowers can break. The weather can change. Setup time can get shorter. The venue may have unexpected restrictions.
A professional florist knows how to adjust quickly and find a solution.

DIY flowers can absolutely be beautiful.
But when you hire a professional florist, you’re not just paying for flowers.

You’re paying for the planning, experience, time, and peace of mind that come with them.

Today will be her 100th yoga class.

So this morning, I delivered the flowers to her yoga studio to celebrate this special milestone. And the message he chose was so simple and beautiful:

“For my amazing wife,
100 more reasons why you are loved.”

I love being part of moments like this. It doesn’t have to be a birthday or an anniversary. Sometimes, flowers are simply a way to say,

I see you
I’m proud of you
I love you.

Have something you want to say to someone you love?
Tell me your message. I’ll help you say it with flowers.

After more than 25 years in the corporate world, I left my career during COVID, moved from New York to Philadelphia, and started a floral business with zero experience in flowers. Was I ready? Not really.

But I knew what I wanted to do.

During my first year, I changed a lot.
I focused my time on flowers.

I completely changed how I spent my money.
I took care of my health.
I listened to the people who supported me.
And most importantly, I believed in myself before I had any proof that I could do it.

Starting later in life can be scary. You may not have enough experience, money, connections, or confidence.

But opportunities don’t always wait until you’re ready. Sometimes you have to say, “I can do this,” and take the first step.

I’m still learning. I’m still growing. And I’m still challenging myself every day.
If you’re starting something new at 40, 45, 50, or beyond, I hope my story gives you a little push to keep going.

It’s not too late to start.

Are you starting something new too? Tell me in the comments. I’d love to hear your story.

I loved how these colors completely transformed the venue while keeping the floral design simple and elegant.

I also added a little Japanese essence to the design, bringing a sense of balance and peace to the space.

Congratulations to the beautiful couple!
I truly enjoyed working with you from the very beginning to the wedding day. Thank you for trusting me and allowing Kaori Tokuoka | Wedding & Event Floral Designer, Philadelphia PA to be part of such an important day in your lives.

This is my fourth and final floral installation for “Living Room” at NextFab , organized by Lighten Up Lab | Lighting Design
For the final arrangement, I chose an all-white palette using beautiful flowers from a local grower, aslll.
After creating four different floral pieces throughout the exhibition, it felt right to end with something simple, pure, and white.

Today is the final day of “Living Room.”
If you haven’t had a chance to see the exhibition yet, this is your last chance to stop by and experience the work of these incredible artists.

Thank you again to Aaron and the NextFab team for giving me the opportunity to bring flowers into this creative space. I truly enjoyed being part of it.

Planning an event, exhibition, or brand activation? I’d love to help bring your vision to life. DM me to start a conversation.
