✨️❤️ How did the 80s influence your love for community, fashion, and music? ❤️✨️
The 80s were unforgettable. From the Plateau to block parties, we were outside, rocking to some of Philly’s finest Hip Hop artists like Schoolly D, MC Breeze, Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince, Steady B, Baby DST, Malika Love & DJ Bones, Rockwell, and many more.
And Lady B provided the platform with her radio show, 'Street Beat' which introduced so many of us to the sound of Hip Hop in Philly. I can remember having my cassette tape ready to record the songs so I could replay them over and over until I memorized every lyric.
Name belts, door knocker earrings, pay phones, bag phones and beepers, Dancing on Air, Izod Lacoste, Cazals, Jordache Jeans, Gucci sneakers, Joe Palmieri’s (an Uptown Thing), roller skating, Barbers Hall, the Wynne Ballroom, Zounds, Stingers, the After Midnight - we lived it, loved it, and made memories.
That same good energy is what Jazz on the Ave is all about: music, community, nostalgia, and a feeling you can take home with you. 🎶
