In the United States and Canada, the first Monday of September is a federal holiday, Labor Day. First celebrated in NYC's Union Square in 1882, Labor Day was organized by unions as a rare day of rest for the overworked during the Industrial Revolution.

HIGHLIGHT DROP! Sam + Rich got hitched! Such a fun couple. I've known them for years. We are so happy to be apart of their big day. They had a wonderful gathering of friends and family down in Plantaion, Florida. People flew in from all over the world. They have an amazing story and we are so happy and proud of them. They had sing a-longs, dancing, and lots of partying! We wish them nothing but the best.

Philadelphia florists give away 2,000 flowers from events cancelled due to coronavirus

The flowers — beautiful but fleeting — could not be saved for the weddings and events they were intended to brighten, which have been postponed indefinitely because of the coronavirus. But these blossoms had life and could still bring joy, so florists Katie Robinson and Kerry Fabrizio decided to share them with the people of Philadelphia.

“We just want to make people smile,” said Robinson.

On a bright day during a dark time, florists brought a dose of unexpected wonder to Rittenhouse Square. “We just want to make people smile,” one said.
