Originally opened in 1983 by Lois Vander Weide as the Village Florist, our shop has been a part of Historic Downtown Pella for 25+ years. Under new ownership in 2006 we changed our name to thistles to better suit our style. We can do traditional styles, but excel in something a bit more unusual or high style. We ar

Kristy has been a quiet constant here. The kind of person who shows up, cares deeply, and makes everything and everyone around her better.
She has poured so much into this space, into our team, and into the people we serve. Often in ways that never asked for recognition.

As she steps into retirement, it feels impossible to fully put into words what she has meant to all of us.

There are moments you wish you could bottle up and keep forever.
The blur of Tulip Time. The rush of Mother’s Day. The joy, the long hours, the laughter in between.
And at the center of it all… this team.
While tens of thousands of people filled our streets, our team showed up with steady hands and full hearts. Designing, delivering, greeting, creating. Over and over again. Long before the doors opened and long after they closed.
They made space for beauty in the busiest of days. They made it all happen.
I’m endlessly proud and deeply grateful.
Thistles is what it is because of the people behind it.
And this little glimpse here barely tells the full story 💛

Mother’s Day looks a little different behind the scenes. A smaller crew, a shop full of flowers, and so many people willing to step in and help.
Today was about making space for the moms on our team to be celebrated… while still honoring all the moms we get to serve.
We’re so grateful to play even a small part in helping celebrate the moms who mean everything.

Today we’re celebrating all the women who nurture, care, and love in quiet ways and in big, beautiful ones. The ones who show up, hold space, lift others, and make the everyday feel special.

Our delivery vehicles are out sharing flowers across our communities today, carrying messages of gratitude and love from so many of you.

We’re here until 3 pm if you’re still looking for something thoughtful to celebrate the women who mean so much.
