The Old School - Paxico A former school turned family home. We occasionally offer classroom stays on Airbnb.com to help cover costs to care for the building and keep its story alive.

Not a business — just a unique home with extra space we love to share. We purchased this former school building in November 2022 with two goals in mind: to create a spacious, one-of-a-kind home for our large, close-knit family, and to preserve a meaningful piece of local history. Since then, we’ve spent countless weekends and school breaks renovating classrooms into cozy living spaces where family

and friends can gather, celebrate, and rest. Though our home may still look like a school from the outside, it is truly our personal residence — not a commercial business or event center. Because of the building’s size and the cost of upkeep, we occasionally share available rooms with guests through Airbnb. It’s our way of helping cover maintenance while welcoming others into this unique space we’re proud to call home. We love the character, charm, and history of our home — and we love sharing it with others when we’re able. Thank you for seeing it for what it really is: a home filled with purpose, family, and stories worth preserving. We wanted to take a moment to share some great news following recent inspections at our property. As some of you may know, a community member raised concerns about whether we were operating within local and state guidelines. While we were confident in our compliance, we welcomed the opportunity to connect with both the Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Kansas Department of Agriculture to clarify how our space is used.

After a thorough visit and open communication, we’re happy to share that we’ve addressed all questions and concerns and continue to be in good standing with both agencies. It was confirmed that our home — including the gym — does not operate as a commercial event center or food service establishment, and we are committed to keeping it that way.

As a result, we’ve removed the sign in front of the gym and will no longer advertise the space for rent as to not confuse anyone. However, we still believe in supporting our community and, when possible, are happy to allow neighbors, friends, and families to use the space privately on a case-by-case basis.

We’re proud of this home, grateful to our community, and glad to continue sharing it in the spirit of hospitality and trust. 💛
