Each day now is one day closer to the 14th Annual Van Wert County Bluegrass Festival. The festival will be held this year on September 25, 26, & 27. This year we are dedicating the festival to Lilliemae & Charles Whitaker. Lilliemae and Charles led their band, The Dixie Gospel-Aires, for many years here in NW and North Central OH. They also did so much for bluegrass by promoting many festivals through the years. We are blessed this year to have their youngest son, Jeff Whitaker, appearing on Friday. Performing with Jeff will be David Marshall (of The Marshall Family) and Tom Ewing (former member of Bill Monroe's Blue Grass Boys) among others. The flyer listed with this post has been updated. The Lincoln County Bluegrass Band will be playing on Saturday.
We strive to maintain a family atmosphere at the bluegrass festival. We don't tolerate foul language or abusive behavior. Children are welcome when accompanied by an adult. If you have a special need, please let us know ahead of time and we will do our best to accommodate you.
This year, Thursday entertainment is all Gospel. We think you will get a blessing from the music the groups will perform. Friday and Saturday is all bluegrass. We have 10 different groups that will appear on those two days.
If you are a picker, please bring your instrument and participate in some of the many jams that will occur thorough the festival.
If you have never attended a bluegrass festival before this will be the perfect opportunity. Bring a friend with you to introduce them to this Appalachian style of music. Bring your lawn chairs with you. If you prefer, we welcome you to camp during the festival. Please see the flyer for information about early camping.
