March at Healing Force of the Universe with residency and 26 other shows including Don Preston (of Mothers of Invention, Frank Zappa) and Iain Matthews (of Fairport Convention), a workshop around humpback whale songs on 3/2, with , a new book release party and many album release celebrations.

WHALE SONG: a workshop + performances by .web - this SUNDAY. As humpbacks simulcast their continuous composition, they listen attentively to their peers, incorporating the innovations that they hear around them into their shared, living song. Musicians especially geek out on what humpbacks are up to once they are privy. In this moment when deep, attuned listening is at a premium, what might we learn about group identity, innovation, and empathy from these marine masters?

Whale Song: a Workshop is a response to and continuation of a decade of affectionate correspondence and collaboration between Daniela and bioacoustics researcher Katy Payne (Songs of the Humpback Whale). A trained musician, Katy listened to thousands of hours of recordings of humpback whale song and found form where others heard noise. With Pink Dolphins as our sonic guardians, we will listen and vocalize together as we recreate a primary experience of the compositional techniques and structures at play in the humpbacks’ complex song.

This event includes a live performance by electroacoustic improvisation duo Pink Dolphins (Christina Marie Karr + Lillian Doyle) using keys and flutes to generate pre / post apocalyptic aural environments as well as a Whale Song workshop led by vocalist, composer, and cantor Daniela Gesundheit (Alphabet of Wrongdoing).

Matinee and evening shows at 2 PM and 7 PM
