🍂🌿 IOWA OCTOBER GARDEN TO-DO LIST 🌿🍂
Winter will be here before we know it! Now is the perfect time to get your garden ready for the cold months ahead. ❄️
Here are a few October tasks to check off your list:
🌱 Plant Spring Bulbs
Tulips, daffodils, crocuses, and other spring-blooming bulbs should be planted before the ground freezes. (Sold Out)
🌳 Plant Trees & Shrubs
Cooler temperatures make October a great time to get trees and shrubs established before winter. (50% off in store perennials and trees)
🌿 Divide & Transplant Perennials
If your perennials have outgrown their space, fall is a great time to divide and relocate many varieties. (We have the tools you need)
🍂 Clean Up Garden Beds
Remove diseased or heavily infested plant material but consider leaving some healthy stems and seed heads for winter interest and wildlife.
💧 Keep Watering!
Don't forget newly planted trees, shrubs, and perennials. Give them a good drink before the ground freezes. (We have hoses and a good variety of nozzels)
🌹 Protect Tender Plants
After the ground begins to cool, mulch around tender perennials and protect roses and other plants that may need extra winter protection. (Red Mulch and Straw still available in limited quantities, get it before it's gone)
🌿 Bring Houseplants Inside
Before nighttime temperatures get too cold, bring tropical plants and houseplants indoors. Check carefully for insects first! (We have spray to help with that)
🌲 Don't Forget Evergreens
Water evergreens well going into winter, especially newly planted ones.
🍁 Add a Layer of Mulch
A few inches of mulch can help protect plant roots from Iowa's freeze-and-thaw cycles. (Red Mulch & Straw available in limited quantities, get it before it's gone)
