Today, we would like to recognize Lynnea, Executive Director/Administrator in Johnston!
Lynnea has worked in hospice for 23 years! Her favorite part of her job is our team. She says, “I love our staff! Our staff is exceptional, and they demonstrate that through the care that they provide not only to our patients and families, but also to each other and our referral sources. We put our patients first, we look for opportunities to serve the unserved and those with limited access to health care. I love that our company provides us with the avenues to serve our communities in which we serve in a variety of ways. Working for Hospice of the Midwest fills up my cup, as I know that every day we are out there doing the best that we can to provide the best care to our patients and families as well as each other and our communities.”
Three words she would use to describe hospice are: comfort care, dignity, hope
Her happy place is her grandpa’s cabin! Her grandparents built their cabin on 40 acres of timber with a pond back in the early 80's. It was a place they spent many Sundays with family for picnics, fishing, and exploring the timber and of course the creek! There is no electricity (but they have a generator), they have two wood burning stoves, no plumbing (but a great outhouse!!); and limited cell phone reception!! Lynnea’s grandma passed away 21 years ago and her +grandpa passed away about 4 years ago. During COVID, her family, her parents, some good friends, and her cousin gave the cabin a facelift and updated it! They insulated it and also built on another room so that they have room for games and fun in wintertime. They got it finished just a couple of weeks ago with the additional wood burning stove, and it is wonderful! The best part about it is during the time of COVID when everything was shut down, she received the best gift ever and that was spending time with her family and her parents, time that they probably wouldn’t have spent had it not been during COVID, as they probably would have been busy doing other things! So, as she looks back, COVID didn’t take anything away from her, it gave her more than she could ever ask for. So even though the cabin has always been her happy place, it is definitely more than a happy place now!
When asked for a fun fact about her, Lynnea said, “Oh I bet some people could tell some stories!!” 😊 But she played softball in college and is an avid deer hunter and most recently an avid boar hunter!
Lynnea’s favorite quote is: "Life isn't about what you do for a living, but about what you "do" in between that makes life worth living"
Her staff would also tell you her other favorite quote is "either run the day or the day runs you!!"
Thank you for all you do, Lynnea! We are so proud to have you on our team!
