Can an officiant just “sign and stamp” your Florida marriage license?

No.

Florida law requires a marriage to be solemnized before the certificate is completed.
Even the simplest ceremony includes a legal declaration of intent.
The officiant is then responsible for completing and returning the license for recording.

I’ve had a few calls asking if I can “just sign” a Florida marriage license.

So here’s a clear breakdown of the document itself.

When you apply for a Florida marriage license, there are multiple sections:

• The Application – where you confirm your legal information is correct
• The Clerk’s Issuance – showing the license is valid and dated
• The Certificate of Marriage – completed by the officiant AFTER solemnization
• The Demographic Section – removed when certified copies are created

Florida law requires a marriage to be solemnized before the certificate is completed.

Even a simple sign-and-go includes a brief legal declaration of intent.

Under Florida law, the officiant is responsible for completing the certificate and returning the license to the issuing clerk within 10 days for recording.

I follow Florida statute carefully so your marriage is valid, recorded properly, and protected.
