If you have never heard the term, an order gatherer is a company that looks like a flower shop online : but it isn’t one.
No physical location.
No cooler.
No flowers.
It buys its way to the top of the search when somebody goes looking for a florist in their own town, takes the order and the money, then passes the job to a real florist for a fraction of what was paid.
Here is the part that gets me.
They send through a photo of an arrangement worth well over $100 with a budget of $35.
You cannot make that for $35.
Nobody can.
And they know it when they sell it.
So the flower shop makes something else.
And when she receives it, she isn’t disappointed in the website whose name she probably never learned.
She is disappointed in you.
Every one of us who fills those orders keeps that model running.
I’m not going to tell you it’s easy to say no during a slow, slow week.
I’m telling you I do.
Support your local florist.
Find the actual flower shop in your community.
Call them.
Visit their website.
Get to know who is really making your flowers.
Because behind those flowers is a real person, a real cooler, a real business, and probably someone standing in the shop at 6 AM holding a giant bunch of blue hydrangea.
Buy flowers from florists.
