Fall color season is coming fast, and I still have a few openings available from September 25 through October 10. 🍂 Peak fall color in the Pagosa area is typically somewhere within that September 25–October 10 window, though Mother Nature does enjoy freelancing a little. I’m fully booked October 11–23, so if you’ve been wanting those golden aspen photos, now’s the time to grab a spot.

Pulled over last night to grab this shot after photographing a special wedding at Keyah Grande.. I’ll forever love the stars. ✨ I plan to start playing with portraits and the Milky Way if anyone is interested in being my model.
Requirements: can stand still in an awkward pose for 10 seconds. Not afraid of the dark.

Story behind the photograph:
I spend my most memorable mornings searching for wildlife. Long before sunrise, while most people are still asleep, I’m driving mountain roads or hiking into the darkness, hoping the day has a story to tell.

The night before this photograph, I was camping in Rocky Mountain National Park, falling asleep to the haunting sound of bull elk bugling through the forest. At 3:00 a.m., I crawled out of my warm teardrop camper and drove an hour across the park in complete darkness to reach the Bear Lake corridor before timed entry began. After a short nap in my car, I hiked to the lake before sunrise and settled in to wait.

For hours, nothing happened.

Then this mother moose and her calf quietly stepped into the lake.

The water was too deep for the calf to reach the aquatic plants growing below the surface, so the mother would dive down, pull up mouthfuls of vegetation, and her little one would eagerly steal breakfast straight from her mouth. They repeated this tender routine for nearly ten minutes.

Moments like these are why I chase wildlife. They can’t be planned or recreated. They require early mornings, patience, and a willingness to leave empty-handed most days. But every so often, nature offers a glimpse into a life that few people get to witness.

This photograph is one of those gifts, and I’m grateful to be able to share it.
