I wasn’t prepared for this part of homesteading.
No one really talks about it.
Not in the starter guides. Not in the feed store. Not on the sunny Instagram reels.

The part where you pour your heart into something—
into someone—
and lose them anyway.

The chick you helped hatch.
The goat you stayed up with all night.
The duckling that followed your kids around the yard.
The quiet moments when you whisper “come on, baby” and they still slip away.

I didn’t expect how heavy it would hit.
I didn’t realize how quickly a little life could become part of your every day.
How deeply you could grieve something so small.

And still—we do it again.
We mend the fence.
We clean the stall.
We gather eggs with a lump in our throat.

Because this is part of the life we chose.
A life full of sunrises and heartbreak.
Of muddy boots and miracles.
Of losing, and loving, and doing it all again.

No, it never gets easier.
You just learn to keep going.
To hold the hard alongside the beautiful.
To let your heart break open and still believe in new life.

That’s the farm life.
That’s the cost of raising anything worth loving.

We have been making plans for our future Waterfowl Area & Adaptable Garden for over a year now! It's something we are so very excited about and very much looking forward to having!! All of our ducks & geese will be safely enclosed and egg collections will be controlled better. They are quite sneaky being that they have access to the whole farm! We are also looking into becoming official egg dealers (hehe) and a small hatchery. Our garden will be eco friendly with the water source coming from the pond and help provide extra nutrients to the garden! It will be a hands on experience for kids to assist with planting or picking "food"! They will be more willing to try a new fruit or vegetable that they have helped pick or grow and understand it comes from a farm first! We also want it to be easily accessible for our challenged or handicap guests to enjoy as well.

SO, we're on the hunt for items to be donated and take off your hands! If you are cleaning out old things like tin buckets, baskets, troughs, planters, bricks, pavers, rocks, outdoor chairs & tables, table umbrellas, anything garden, lights, and water features, we'd love to see what you have! ALSO we would LOVE to add vintage farm equipment for decor and flower garden planters!! We're talking old tractor, farm equipment to fill in spaces around the farm and garden!! We also would like a small old boat for a floating garden or a seating area by the pond! If you have or know someone who may have things like this junking up their yard, please message us! We'd love to see if we could incorporate it in this project and make them beautiful again!!

When we get to start this project, if you would like to volunteer to help, please message us!! We would love extra hands and have more passionate folks like us putting it together!!
