In Guangzhou, China, an 82-year-old man has moved thousands with a decision as strange as it is heartwarming: he will leave his fortune to whoever lovingly cares for his cat Xianba when he is no longer here. Mr. Long — widowed for a decade and without children or close relatives — lives alone with his feline companion, who has been his comfort and joy in recent years. "She is the only thing I have left… and the most important as well", he says with a melancholic smile.
It all began on a rainy day, when Long rescued four stray kittens huddled under an awning. Out of all of them, only Xianba, the mother, is still alive. Since then, they have been inseparable. He cares for her like a daughter, and she follows him around the house like a shadow. Aware that his health is not what it used to be, Long wants to make sure his cat is not left helpless when he passes away. That is why he has started looking for a person to adopt her with the same love with which he has cared for her.
The story has touched the hearts of many on social media, especially in a country where this level of dedication to rescued animals is uncommon. Although he has not revealed how big his fortune is, Long insists that the most important thing is not the money, but a genuine commitment. "I want someone who truly loves her", he says. Meanwhile, he continues checking every application with the same patience with which he serves Xianba her favorite food, every day, at the same time.
