Updates in downtown Owatonna

Downtown Owatonna Limestone Replacement to Begin May 26 - Parking Lanes Blocked Only Where Work Occurs

Removal and replacement of the deteriorating limestone in downtown Owatonna will begin on Tuesday, May 26. The existing, failing limestone will be taken out and replaced with new granite, which will provide a more durable and longer-lasting streetscape for the community.

Work will begin on Rose Street and move block by block throughout the downtown corridor. Parking lanes will be restricted only on the side of the street where crews are actively working. This phased approach is intended to minimize disruptions for residents, visitors, and businesses.

Work is being carried out under the City Council‑approved Resolution 80‑25, adopted on November 18, 2025, a Mediation Agreement & Release reached to settle claims associated with Owatonna’s North Cedar Streetscape Project.

Updated information regarding project timelines, block-by-block progress, and any traffic impacts will be available on owatonna.gov and the Downtown Owatonna page.
