Last night, a fire broke out at our buddies Ramon & Jose’s business, Cerro Grande Meat Market.
If you know Ramon and Jose, you know how hard they have worked to build a business to be proud of. They have poured years of sweat, long hours, and relentless dedication into creating a market where customers come to pick up quality meats, fresh tamales, and the best carne asada & homemade sausages for weekend cookouts.
But what you might not know is how they quietly give back to our community. They have supplied the rural and local fire departments without hesitation, they tossed out tacos during the Oktoberfest parade.
They have shown up for this community time and again, and now, we have the chance to show up for them.
How can you help?
The fire has left Cerro Grande Meat Market down for the time being, and they face an uphill climb to rebuild their dream. Last night Jose was in good spirits and was ready to do the work to start rebuilding. Jose is insured, but the lost income during closure will affect the Lopez family and their employees.
If you’ve ever:
✅Bought carne asada from Jose for your BBQ,
✅Enjoyed the warm welcome of his store,
✅Benefited from his kindness or quiet generosity,
now is the time to give back if you are able.
You can help by:
✅ Making a donation, buying a t-shirt or sticker (Roger is working on a sticker design now, we will post it as soon as it's ready. 100% of the proceeds will go to the Lopez family.
✅ Sharing this story with others who know Jose
✅ Offering volunteer help when cleanup begins
Cerro Grande Meat Market is more than a business; it’s a family’s livelihood, and a symbol of hard work in Ottumwa.
Let’s stand by Ramon and Jose and show them how much we care
about the Cerro Grande family. Together, we can help him rebuild and keep this community pillar alive.
