A little 80's hip hop cake. Can't understand why I didn't take a pictures of the top of the cake but it had a fondant gold chain, boom box, and cassette tape on top. It was fun to use my airbrush machine to mimic the graffiti and even more fun to visit the space in time.

If you are a fan of the movies or art by HR Giger this cake might not seem so dark.
Lots of times, people have a specific theme in mind. Other times, I have to grab on and see where inspiration takes me. As this cake was leaving my house, my husband said this one might be my best one yet. The scales on the tail, the bone-like fingers on the face grabber...this cake was even better than I imagined.

All they asked for was Hedwig, they definitely weren't expecting a life-size rendition but seeing their faces was priceless! I wanted to challenge myself and with every swipe of buttercream, I knew this cake would turn out exactly as I wanted it. I don't carve cakes or make 'is it cake?' type cakes but I couldn't help myself with this one and I still love it every time I pass it on my camera roll.

This cake gave me a run for my money. Egg-free, strawberry cake which I had to make 3 times before I was happy with the color and consistency. Egg-free Strawberry cake has now officially gone into the same column as Rubik's cube cookies: never again.
All kidding aside, everyone was thrilled at the end and that's worth all the tears, the countless pounds of strawberries, and eating the reject strawberry cakes for days.

I love when I can incorporate real flowers onto a cake but it's not something that came easily to me: the spacing, the different textures, how to make it look effortless while still keeping the elegance of an arranged bouquet were challenging but I love when it all comes together.

It's been too long since I've posted and I'm scrolling thru my phone and realizing I'm months and months behind. I don't want these cakes to be left on my phone without sharing them so forgive the hasty way they're posted over the next few days and weeks.

It feels like a million years since I've posted. May and June proved themselves very busy months. Now that I've settled into summer and my head has come above the water line, I'm back.

I've lost count of how many birthday celebrations I've done for this family but Harry Potter has consistently been a request for the last couple of years. I love a good theme and I love a commitment to a good theme.
