A Scene Kids Trip Down Memory Lane: MySpace Secret Shows 🔊

MySpace Secret Shows might’ve been one of the greatest music culture moments of the entire 2000s emo/scene/indie era. And if you were there… you already know.

Before algorithms spoon-fed everybody the same bands, before every concert immediately became TikTok content, and before “exclusive experiences” became corporate buzzwords… there were MySpace Secret Shows.

The concept was simple: take a massive band at the peak of internet hype, throw them into a tiny sweaty venue, announce it last minute through MySpace bulletins, and let chaos handle the rest.

MySpace officially launched Secret Shows in 2006 through MySpace Music. Fans would add the Secret Shows profile and obsessively refresh bulletins waiting for random posts announcing mystery shows — sometimes only 24 hours beforehand. At its peak, almost half a million people followed the page.

And honestly? It perfectly matched the energy of peak MySpace culture.

Scene kids glued to desktop computers. Top 8 drama. PureVolume pages. AIM away messages. HTML profiles. Warped Tour summers. Neon merch. Side bangs. Digital camera flash photos. Kids skipping school to stand in line all day for a “maybe.”
