Registration Required: Experience the upcoming lunar eclipse at Oracle State Park on Thursday, August 27th from 7:00-10:00pm!
At 7:00pm we will begin the evening with a presentation about how lunar eclipses occur, why each one is unique, and what to watch for throughout the night.
During the event, visitors will have the opportunity to observe the moon both with the naked eye and through a park telescope while its appearance gradually changes over the course of the evening.
At 9:15pm, the eclipse reaches its maximum, with 96% of the moon covered by Earth's shadow. At this point, only a thin sliver of the moon will remain in direct sunlight, while the rest of the lunar surface takes on a dim coppery-red to gray appearance as it is illuminated only by sunlight filtered through Earth's atmosphere.
