Omaha Restaurant Reviews

Omaha Restaurant Reviews One couple's reviews of restaurants dined at in the Omaha area. This is not an endorsement or solicitation of any kind, just us getting the word out.

This page is about one couple's reviews of various restaurants around Omaha. We have very different tastes in food, so this will be a he said / she said page as you will get 2 unique reviews of each restaurant we visit. We will try to review at least one restaurant a week, and welcome comments on new places to visit as we are always looking for new places to try out. Although we will focus primari

ly on restaurants, bars, pubs, and any place that can cook a good chicken wing will at some point get acknowledgement on this page.

2021 has been a tough year for restaurants, although most have had good food, the service of some has been really tough to swallow. We’ll keep dining out though, especially local when possible. More reviews to follow soon.

Come out and support a great local chef, Dezmend Drumgould at his last Omaha pop-up this Sunday as he pursues his dream of being a chef in New York. Menu will hopefully be posted shortly, but regardless, come on out, you will not be disappointed.

Dear Omaha friends and family,

My name is Dezmend Drumgould and this is the beginning of my story.

I am 24 years old and a chef of 8 years. I started my cooking journey at Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo, at the Treetops restaurant. From there I have moved on to restaurants such as; Dante Napoletena, Baela Rose, and V. Mertz.

I’m now on the path of continuing my journey and am pleased to announce acceptance to my dream job in New York, at One White Street, a highly anticipated restaurant directed under Chef Austin Johnson (also an Omaha native).

To help fund this dream, I am teaming up with Stories Coffee Company, on 114th and Davenport, for my final Lu Mi. pop-up. this Sunday, June 6th, from 4-9 PM.

All food sales, as well as money raised, will be used to make this dream a reality, with hopes of using this experience to further enhance the foodscape of Omaha in the future. I couldn’t be happier to share this last moment with you all as I pursue this next great adventure. I look forward to further telling my story and what this means to me.

Thank you all so much,

Dezmend Drumgould

It’s been a while and while we won’t be dining in for a while, here are a couple of places we have visited over the past several weeks that we want to give a shout out to (primarily with a West O flavor). We tried to stay local but a chain or two may have snuck in.

Wings - Oscars

Happy Hour - $5 32 ounce Long Island Iced Teas @ DJs Dugout. Honorable mention to the $18 buckets of Mai Tais @ Cunningham’s

Favorite new restaurant - Pacific Eating House

Gyros - Legacy Gyro

Comfort food - lobster Mac ‘n cheese @ The Good Life

Pizza - La Casa, honorable mention to Piezons and Roman Coin

Family deal - Firebirds $29.99 chicken dinner, fed 4 with leftovers

Appetizer - bacon wrapped anything, so we’re going with Addy’s balls @ Addy’s

Mexican - tie between Maximo’s in old town Elkhorn and El Vallarta in Gretna

Italian - sad to see Bravo close but had great meals at Belle Vita and Biaggis

More to come...

Finally made it to Blackstone to check out Meatball Saturday night and I didn't walk away with as favorable impression as I had expected. I ordered the daily special which was a tasty Greek meatball made of beef, lamb, and pork with a little Kalamata olives, but they were out of the roasted asparagus that accompanied it replacing it with less than impressive green beans. She had a traditional meatball with marinara sauce over penne pasta that was very good but between my dish and the fact that they ran out of silverware giving us plastic ware to eat with, and the prices (my three meatball entrée over a bed of green beans was $13), I am not able to give this restaurant a ringing endorsement. It was a nice touch though that they paid for our appetizer when they asked us to switch tables for a bigger party, but overall first impression not so good.

Not an Omaha review but I have to give props to zombie burger in Des Moines for a very delightful evening last night. From the spiked rice crispy treat shake to the garlic bacon and blue cheese fries to the fried macaroni and cheese bun bacon cheeseburger, just a very overall great time and a nice downtown Des Moines location, I highly recommend checking it out if you are out that way.

Finally a restaurant on west Pacific St. and only your restaurant critics could go to a new burger joint and order chicken but that's exactly what we did. Charred Burger & Bar is a nice mix of simple and complex. Looking out through two walls of windows we settled on two appetizers, the Sriracha buffalo wings (small in size but very flavorful) and the Haystack (an amazing platter of fries covered in beer cheese, pickled onion, pepperoncini, and green onion). We ordered the house special (not on the menu), Chick in Green, a pulled chicken sandwich with spring greens, red onion, Swiss cheese, pastrami, and pesto aioli on a toasted Parmesan focaccia bread...absolutely delicious. A great west Omaha location, we will be back and on deck will be the slider trio where we can sample a few of their burger offerings.
