A special screening of Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar takes place at the Capitol Theater on August 17 🍹

Put on your culottes and join the Olympia Film Society for a special fundraiser screening of the cult comedy hit Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar! Released during the pandemic and largely denied a traditional theatrical run, this wildly funny, endlessly quotable film has since earned a devoted following as a modern cult classic. Follow best friends Barb and Star as they leave their small Midwestern town for the vacation of a lifetime, where friendship, romance, musical numbers, and absurd adventure await in sunny Vista Del Mar.

This one-night-only fundraiser is your chance to experience this beloved comedy the way it deserves to be seen; on the big screen with fellow fans. Admission is $20 per person and includes a free popcorn, plus we'll be serving a special "Buried Treasure" drink inspired by the film. Costumes are strongly encouraged, so break out your brightest resort attire, boldest culottes, and most vacation-ready looks. All proceeds support the Olympia Film Society and help keep independent film, live events, and community arts thriving in Olympia.

Les Abysses screens on June 11 as part of Bleak Week: Cinema of Despair

Nico Papatakis's debut feature was a succès de scandale that was boycotted by Cannes's selection committee in 1963. A furiously anarchic, expressionistically heightened dissection of class relations, Les Abysses unfolds in a country home where domestic servants Michèle and Marie-Louise (played by real-life sisters Francine and Colette Bergé) are cruelly exploited by the family they work for. When their abusive employers push them too far, it provokes a shocking rebellion that doubles as a provocative metaphor for Algerian resistance against French colonialism.

Co-presented with the American Cinematheque, 'Bleak Week: Cinema of Despair' is an annual film festival showcasing some of the greatest works of cinema from across the globe that venture into the darkest sides of humanity and the bleakest points in human history. The fifth annual edition in June 2026 expands to nearly 100 theaters across the U.S., Canada, U.K. and South and Central America, with each venue presenting its own original curated lineup of uncompromising films defined by unpleasant truths and raw empathy.
