This last weekend I filled my cup!
I stood in the middle of our city at the Wooden Boat Festival.
As I looked around I found my town again , I grew up here in a time when we only had a few festivals in town they were all produced by our community just as this festival has been for 48 years.
A year and a half ago I took on the large task of saving our beloved Wooden Boat Festival with just a few board members left.
2024 was going to be her last year in our town after we experienced yet another loss to our club.
This last weekend was not my first year it was my 20th with the Olympia Wooden Boaters!
I am truly honored to do what I do.
I have seen us go through hard times and easy, I have seen us distance and not agree.
I have not seen the kindness I once knew in this town for some time until I stood there surrounded by so many volunteers.
It really was so very beautiful.
I have not been able to express my appreciation to every single person who helped me simply because it was so many.
So many boater ,bands,schools, artist, small businesses, the ones who don't wish to be named lol but saved me just the same, our local Olympia Yacht club, keller williams, our city parks and port, the OCC, Project Mindset, swan town marina, the civil air patrol , roads departments, so many individuals some who even traveled from South Dakota to come home and help, the list goes on and on of people who all came together to make this possible.
It was our 48th year and a lot of fun!
The majority of things were done by volunteers who gave up many hours for all of us.
This festival is 98% self funded by our local small business vendors and has been able to donate back every single year to our community.
I have been re building our little festival with the old school idea of for the community by the community.
My vendors give me advice, our parks department tolerates my many questions at odd hour and my family makes sure I don't give up.
I have just one request for my community for the work I put into it.
