The first chill of Fall is in the air - It's a reminder that the heat from just a month ago is gone for the year and we're headed towards Winter.
I love fall, with the colors and smells and sounds - But I'm always eager for Winter and the first snowfall of the season.
I've skied since I could walk (I even snowboarded a few years!) and I've hit mountains all over and enjoyed it every time there's a chance to hop on a lift. Lisa jumped on the bandwagon a few years ago and likes to use ski blades. Most year's you can find us at the Loop or on a rare occasion White Pass when we can sneak away.
Skiing isn't for everyone though - Sometimes they don't have time and others don't have the finances for it and Winter is a time you just get through instead of enjoying.
The same can be said for Summers - It's so hot for a few months that it's hard for people to get out and enjoy the area to the fullest.
To this end - The fact that for five or six months out of the year, people find it difficult to get out and enjoy the area, I'm advocating for a year round Pool and Sports Complex in a centrally located spot so that our community can recreate in all weather types while building an economic driver for our area.
An Olympic Pool for water polo, swim team and therapeutic activities for seniors and folks in physical rehab - A large track and field for football and soccer with great facilities for shotput, long jump, and the like.
To me it's a no brainer for so many reasons - Helping kids get out of the house year round and engage with each other IRL, giving our medical community an avenue to help people locally instead of sending them to BC or Wenatchee for therapy and giving our athletes the infrastructure they need to push themselves even further.
It's no secret we produce world class athletes in Okanogan County. Let's give them and many others a leg up to take their success to the next level.
