Check out our bottle gourds! It’s interesting to see what does well each season and this year, this is what has grown well! These gourds are similar to summer squash.

When allowed to mature and dry, the shell becomes remarkably hard and lightweight. That's when they become especially useful! They can be made into:
🐦 Birdhouses and nesting boxes
🪕 Musical instruments
🥣 Bowls, cups, ladles and containers
🎨 Crafts and decorative pieces
🌾 Historically, dried bottle gourds have been used as water containers and storage!

We are incredibly thankful for community partnerships! For many years we have partnered with Wolfe’s Youth Employability Solutions (WYES) during the summer.

Their teams of workers have supported our operations on the farm and at camp. Their involvement with the YMCA has allowed us to accomplish more, and we have served as a place where youth can learn skills that will make them employable in the future.

We are particularly thankful for Dave and Kirsten Wolfe, longtime Y supporters, for choosing our programs. They mostly remain behind the scenes, but are deserving of recognition!

This deck staining project was just one of the many things accomplished this summer by WYES workers. Matthew and Peg had the idea to stain and decorate this deck and it turned out amazing. We are proud of Matthew and so thankful for Peg, who is always supportive of Y operations.🌻🌾🐑

So many amazing things are happening on the farm this summer!!

🐓Have we mentioned we have chickens? 53 chickens provide eggs for kids to collect, pack, and sell!

🍆 Have we mentioned we have 70 raised garden beds filled with growing vegetables for kids to pick and eat?

🐇Have we mentioned our bunnies - “Cookie Dough” and “Butterscotch” -cuddly little fluffballs?

And most of all, have we mentioned the kids who are learning on the farm?? What a great experience for these lucky kids!!
