Here's the answer to yesterday's pop quiz! How many feet of cords did we have to use to run Northeast Iowa Dance Academy dance recital last week?

To run all of the audio and lighting components of the show, it required a grand total of 2,650 feet of cords. This is just over a half mile in total length! Believe it or not, we only used around 2/3rds of our complete cord inventory so we could have gone further if needed. As you can see in the photo, we know it's 2,650 feet because we also had to wrap up every foot of that! :p

Congratulations to all the Northeast Iowa Dance Academy dancers and staff. You all did a fabulous job and it was a pleasure to collaborate with you to pull off such an amazing show for so many to enjoy! A special shout out to our student crew for this big, multi day event - Emma Schulmeister (spotlight), Lucas Buckman (front lights and spotlight), and Vincent McCallister (back lights and visual effects). On top of them all doing a really great job, only 1 of them had helped do production for a dance recital previously. The majority of our team was learning as we went but by the end they were running things like pros. Great job everyone! Williams Center for the Arts Oelwein Community Schools

Congratulations to a few of our most experienced members on their graduation this weekend. We are thrilled for their accomplishment, even though we will certainly miss them and the immense experience they contributed to our team. Congrats and thank you for the years of being dedicated Husky Productions team members to Nick Johnson, Emma Schulmeister, Jack Patrick, and Jackson Gross.

It was a pleasure assisting with last night's Cher tribute show at the Williams Center for the Arts. Our students got to work in collaboration with their performers and technicians to produce the high level show many of you enjoyed. It always makes us proud to hear the many compliments that the professionals passing through have for the quality of work our team does. They are even more surprised when they find out that high quality production was created by our high school students. This is one of our top objectives (a real world business goal) in the class.... doing a quality job that leads to satisfied customers and repeat business. Last night our team included Jackson Gross on lighting, Emma Schulmeister on spotlight, and Nick Johnson on spotlight. We were also super excited to use the Williams Center's new LED video wall last night. What a exciting and fun technology addition to the overall production. Great job team!

Yesterday was the OHS prom held at the new Transco Events on Frederick. What a fun, historic, and unique venue. We enjoyed the experience of getting to work with a new and local venue and appreciated the hospitality of the staff. We hope everyone attending prom had an amazing time dancing the night away!

*A big thanks to our dedicated student team last night for putting in all of the work and effort to make such a fun prom experience for everyone: Aylin, Hannah, Eric, Emma, Lillian. Also can't forget alumni Ben and Brandon for helping load out later in the night.

We are HUSKY PRODUCTIONS!

Husky Productions is excited to be in its third year as a student-run, school-based organization that focuses on providing audio and visual technology services to the school, community, and individuals. With the ability to provide audio and/or visual production for small and medium sized events, we pride ourselves in providing a high quality product at a great value. The best part about the organization is that it’s student run!

Husky Productions currently has 12 student members who have learned about the equipment/technology, regularly set it up and tear it down, program equipment systems, operate them, and help dictate the future direction of the organization. In the first year of existence, Husky Productions focused on supporting and enhancing in-house events, such as school dances, meetings, and events held in the Williams Center for the Arts. With everything now in place, we are excited to expand our reach into the community and surrounding area to hopefully have an even bigger impact with technology and the real world. Junior Brielle Belden comments, “Being in Husky Productions from the very beginning has been an interesting, fun experience. It's been nice being with the project as it grows, and I'm excited to see how it develops even after I graduate!”

With such a focus on real world experience, students who are active members are getting valuable experience on what it’s like to operate a service-based business. From discussions regarding accepting potential jobs, to budget, to maintaining, upgrading, and expanding equipment needs, the students get to be involved in the entire process and are often put into the driver’s seat when it comes to working events or operating equipment systems. Alongside them is Husky Productions staff adviser and coach, Mr. Cory McBride. With over 20 years of experience working with production equipment, McBride is able to work with beginners and train them ‘on the job’. Students will generally start with less complex tasks and eventually advance to operating entire lighting or sound systems on their own. “The reason I enjoy being part of Husky Productions so much is that it is just so different from anything I have been a part of. This organization has made such an impact on me that I would like to pursue a career in this field,” states senior Adriana Reese.

In addition to the typical events that the group usually handles, last July students were invited to be part of the production crew for national country artist Dustin Lynch at a large scale, professional concert hosted by the Buchanan County Fair. Students worked alongside trained professionals for two days setting up festival staging, concert-grade audio equipment and lighting, and unloading semi trailers of concert equipment and instruments. Some students even got to design the lighting placement and work during the concert as part of the professional lighting crew.
